National PT Month: Celebrating School-Based Physical Therapists

October isn’t just about pumpkin spice lattes and haunted houses—it’s also National Physical Therapy Month! While many people know physical therapists for helping athletes and seniors recover from injuries, it’s time to shine a light on the physical therapists who work in schools.

These dedicated professionals make sure kids aren’t just skipping to class—they’re turning everyday movements into exciting challenges, boosting their confidence and making physical activity a fun part of their school experience.

School-based physical therapists play a vital role in helping students participate in everyday school activities. They are masters at motivating kids to build strength and improve mobility—sometimes without the students even realizing it. What might seem like a simple game of hopscotch or a round of relay races is actually part of a carefully crafted therapy plan. These physical therapists know how to make exercises fun, turning therapy into an adventure. Kids might think they’re just saving the world from imaginary villains, but in reality, they’re developing crucial motor skills that will help them navigate their school environment with confidence.

Beyond the physical challenges, school-based physical therapists are expert problem-solvers. Whether it’s helping a student navigate a crowded hallway or figuring out how to safely climb stairs, these therapists are always ready with a solution. They make sure that no physical barrier stands in the way of a student’s ability to participate in school life, from gym class to lunchtime. It’s not just about helping students recover from injuries—it’s about empowering them to move freely and safely throughout their day.

This month, as we celebrate National Physical Therapy Month, it’s the perfect time to recognize the incredible contributions of school-based physical therapists. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that students can thrive in the classroom, on the playground, and beyond. Thanks to their expertise, students are able to run, jump, and participate fully in school activities, whether it’s field day or just getting from one classroom to another.

So, this October, raise your cup of pumpkin spice to honor the school-based physical therapists who keep our schools moving. Happy National Physical Therapy Month to all the amazing physical therapists out there, especially those working in schools, helping students move, grow, and achieve their full potential!
