The Bilingual English Spanish Oral Screener (BESOS) was developed to predict the risk for language impairment (LI) in Spanish-English speaking bilingual children.
A study was conducted to assess the accuracy of identifying the long-term risk for language impairment (LI) in children with and without LI. Preschool is a critical time for language development. It is imperative that children at risk for LI are identified appropriately so they can have the intervention needed to help close the gap between their abilities and what is typical for same-aged peers.
Results of this study indicated that a bilingual language screener can be useful for predicting risk for LI in bilingual children in 1st grade when administered before kindergarten. For the full article, please log into your ASHA account and go to the following research article:
