Summer isn't just a season of vacations and longer days.   For SLPs and OTs, it's one of the smartest windows of the year to take the leap into a travel therapy career. Here's why. --- **The End of the School Year Is a Natural Launch Pad** For school-based SLPs and OTs, the close of the academic year is already a moment of transition. Your schedule shifts, your caseload wraps up, and for many therapists, a quiet question surfaces: *Is there more out there for me?* Travel therapy is a compelling answer to that question — and summer gives you the breathing room to explore it without feeling rushed. Rather than waiting until fall when everyone else is scrambling for positions, starting your journey now means you're ahead of the curve, with time to explore locations, ask questions, and find an assignment that genuinely excites you. --- **Summer Demand Means More Choices for You** Clinics, hospitals, outpatient facilities, and pediatric settings often experience an uptick in patient volume and staffing needs over the summer months. For travel therapists, that translates into more assignment options, more geographic variety, and in many cases, stronger compensation packages.   Whether you've always wanted to spend a few months in the Pacific Northwest, try out a coastal city in the Southeast, or explore a setting you've never worked in before, summer is when the options are plentiful. And having choices means you can find the right fit — not just the first available slot. --- **Time to Get Your Licensing in Order** One of the most common questions therapists have before their first travel assignment is: *What about licensure?* It's a fair concern — and summer is actually the ideal time to sort it out. Multi-state licensing and endorsement applications can take several weeks to process. Starting that process now means you'll be fully credentialed and ready to hit the ground running by late summer or early fall, which is peak season for travel therapy placements.   At The Stepping Stones Group, our recruiters walk you through the licensing process from start to finish. You don't have to figure it out alone. --- **A Low-Pressure Way to Test the Lifestyle** One of the best-kept secrets about travel therapy is that your first assignment doesn't have to be a permanent identity shift. Most assignments run 13 weeks — long enough to truly settle into a new place and role, but short enough that you're not locked in if the experience isn't quite what you expected.   Summer is the perfect low-stakes season to try it. Kids are out of school, social calendars are more flexible, and there's an energy to summer that makes new experiences feel a little more natural. Many of our therapists describe their first travel assignment as one of the most energizing chapters of their career. --- **You Won't Be Doing This Alone** This is important: travel therapy with The Stepping Stones Group isn't a "figure it out as you go" experience. From your very first conversation with our team, you'll have a dedicated recruiter who gets to know your clinical background, your lifestyle preferences, and what you're hoping to get out of the experience.   We handle the logistics — housing support, credentialing guidance, benefits, and ongoing check-ins throughout your assignment — so you can stay focused on what you do best: making a difference in the lives of your patients.   Our mission has always been to connect skilled, passionate therapists with communities that need them. And we take that personally. --- **The Bottom Line** There's rarely a perfect moment to make a big career move. But summer comes close. The timing aligns, the demand is strong, the options are wide open — and the right support system is here when you're ready.   If you're an SLP or OT who's been curious about travel therapy, let this be your sign. **Ready to see what a summer assignment could look like for you? Let's talk.**   *[Reach out to a recruiter](mailto:k12leadgen.careers@ssg-healthcare.com) at The Stepping Stones Group today and take the first step toward your next great adventure.* --- --- *The Stepping Stones Group specializes in connecting speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists with meaningful travel therapy placements across the country.
