Spring Into Speech: Fun & Festive Activities for Speech Therapy Success

Snow melts. The weather gets warmer. Flowers start to bloom. Celebrate the changing of the seasons with spring-themed speech activities for kids!

Seasonal activities are versatile and offer fun and engaging ways to connect with your students and excite them to work on their goals.  

St. Patrick’s Day Categories 

Pots of gold, rainbows, shamrocks, and leprechauns: St. Patrick’s Day is a great holiday to incorporate into your speech sessions! 

Available on Teachers Pay Teachers, this free pot of gold-themed categories activity is an excellent way to target goals focused on language development and increasing semantic skills. This activity is best suited for students beginning to learn categories. 

Each coin pictures an item pertaining to a category and each pot of gold is labeled with a category (e.g., foods, animals, occupations, etc.). Have your students sort the coins into the categories corresponding to each pot of gold for some festive fun!

Spring Bingo 

Who doesn’t enjoy a bit of friendly competition? With colorful, kid-friendly pictures, this free spring themed bingo game will get your speech group excited to expand their receptive and expressive language skills. Read aloud each of the “Wh-” questions and instruct your students to cross off the square depicting the answer. This activity contains 24 “Wh-” questions (e.g., “who,” “what,” and “where”) and an answer key. Spring bingo is best used with upper grade elementary students.

Spring Articulation 

Target your students’ articulation goals while engaging their creativity! These low preparation color by symbol pictures are a great tool to encourage your students to practice their speech sounds. Each spring themed picture lists 10 words containing the target speech sound. Have your students say their target words and color in the portion of the picture with the corresponding symbol and color pair. This motivating activity is best used with elementary students.
