Speech Therapy Crafts: Valentine’s Day Edition

Speech Therapy Crafts: Valentine’s Day Edition ♡

As we embrace the new year, there’s another exciting holiday that’s right around the corner- Valentine’s Day! If you ask me, I can’t think of a better time than this to refresh our clients’ love for speech therapy.

As speech-language pathologists, we try our best to keep our therapy sessions impactful, engaging, and fun. Recycling through the same list of activities can get boring and predictable after a while. Incorporating holiday crafts can be an enjoyable way to show our creative sides, and explore our artistic abilities.

Valentine’s Day will be a great opportunity to switch things up and try some of these ideas! The following freebies are all from this website and the links can be found at the bottom of this article.

Craft Ideas:

Valentine’s Day Pictures: This activity is very simple to prepare and can be adapted to materials you have in your room. Practice each target word 5x or more and add a piece of tissue/construction paper with each production. By the end of this activity, you will have a beautiful, colorful craft ready to go home. This particular freebie is for the /s/ sound, however, the creator has a link to other sounds that can be purchased on TPT.

Valentine’s Day Card: This activity will allow your client to create a sweet card to bring home to their loved ones. This freebie comes with various pages that include phrase/sentence starters such as "I am working on", "Dear", and "Love,". These can be pasted inside their card. This craft is a great way to send homework home to families for carryover!

Thumbprint Valentine: This activity is another cute way to send home a valentine’s day card. My favorite part about this activity is the adorable pun that is featured on the card- “thumb-body loves you”. While the client dabs their thumb and stamps, you can target their goal. For example, if they’re working on wh-questions, you might ask them questions throughout the activity. If they’re working on articulation, you might drill a certain sound while they dab/stamp.

The possibilities to involve crafts are truly endless. I hope this post inspires you to try one of these crafts to create a fun Valentine’s Day session. Your clients will “fall in love” again with speech therapy!
