Winter is often a time when we feel our batteries depleting throughout the day.
This Valentine’s Day, let’s spread a little extra love, warmth, and joy. Fostering positive feelings and a sense of community can make all the difference!
Here are two fun Valentine’s Day-themed activities sure to bring smiles all around:
Go Fishing for Hearts
This is a fun and sweet way to practice fine motor skills! Draw a heart-shaped bowl on a piece of paper and place a real bowl of water on top. Add little hearts made from pipe cleaners and then have them use a “love scoop” (a fork, spoon, or tongs—whatever you have!) to catch the hearts. It’s an easy way to spread the love while building coordination! Additionally, for each heart collected you can also add an appropriate speech goal to celebrate!
Valentine's Day-themed Sensory Bin
All busy hands love a good sensory bin, and this Valentine’s Day-themed one is sure to be a sweet success! Here are some fun and festive elements to include:
- A pink plastic container
- Heart-shaped macaroni
- Dyed red rice or legumes
- Soft heart-shaped pieces of felt
- Fun heart-shaped cookie cutters
- Silicone cupcake molds
- Porcupine balls or foam hearts
- Purple scoopers to mix everything together
To prep your bin, dye your rice or beans the day before using food coloring, then let them dry overnight on a baking sheet. Once they’re ready, it’s time for fun! Adding hidden layers—like porcupine balls or felt hearts—will have hearts racing as they dig, find, and collect all the love-filled treasures! 💕
