Holiday breaks often bring changes in routines, staffing, and service availability, all of which can impact the quality and consistency of care for those we serve. Here are a few ways to stay proactive and prepared during the holidays: Keep Communication Open Maintain clear and consistent communication between staff, families, and external providers. Regular check-ins and shared updates help ensure that everyone is aligned and aware of any schedule changes or adjustments to care plans. Review Schedules and Documentation Before the holiday break, take time to review and complete all required paperwork and documentation. Staying organized helps reduce stress and allows you to fully enjoy your time with loved ones without worrying about unfinished tasks. Assess Support Needs Make sure none of your students or clients need additional support before the holidays begin. Addressing concerns early helps prevent disruptions in care and ensures a smooth transition into and out of the break. Discuss Plans Early Have open conversations with family, friends, and colleagues about upcoming plans. Coordinating schedules and expectations ahead of time makes it easier to balance professional responsibilities and personal celebrations. Plan Ahead for Fun and Relaxation Preparation isn’t just for work—it also means carving out time for meals, family activities, and rest. Thoughtful planning helps you recharge and return to work refreshed and ready to support your students or clients. The holidays are a wonderful opportunity to pause, reflect, and reconnect.
