St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner! Themed activities are a great way to engage your students during their speech sessions. This blog post will provide you with a few festive ideas to target your students’ goals!
Articulation
This St. Patrick's Day dot art coloring page is a great activity for not only sparking your student's creativity, but is beneficial in targeting speech sounds and eliciting many trials. Each page provides the target word accompanied by a small picture in the stripes of the rainbow and the pot of gold. The student can color each dot and say the target word for a given number of trials. This activity is ready to be printed and used. There is no preparation required.
Language & Articulation
This silly St. Patrick's Day themed speech lib is great for targeting language and articulation goals. This activity contains a short story about St. Patrick's Day celebrations and traditions. Your students can fill in the 20 blanks (i.e., adjectives, nouns, verbs, etc.) to practice their language. To target articulation, you can use lists containing words with your target sound. The creator of this activity provides ready-to-go word lists that can be accessed here. This activity can be used for in-person and teletherapy sessions.
Story Sequencing & Language
Children love reading stories! Lucille Colandro's festive tale, "There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover," is perfect for St. Patrick's Day because the old lady swallows different objects to create a rainbow so she can hide a pot of gold. This story can be used to target story sequencing and vocabulary. The repetitive storyline and fun illustrations will keep your students engaged and following along. This story is great for young elementary school students and can be used for in-person or teletherapy sessions.
