LAFAYETTE, Colo., Aug. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Chicago, IL, and Lafayette, CO – August 7, 2017. The Stepping Stones Group ("SSG"), a portfolio company of Shore Capital Partners ("Shore Capital"), is pleased to announce the acquisition of Staffing Options and Solutions ("SOS").
SSG was formed in May 2014 through the combination of MyTherapyCompany ("MTC") and Cumberland Therapy Services ("CTS"). Staffing Options & Solutions (SOS) was founded in 1994 as a spin-off from another company, co-owned by the current President of SOS, Diane Powers, M.A., CCC-SLP. Other founding principals include Vice-President, Sandy Burns, CRTT, Vice President, Ladonna Valier, PT and CFO, Greg Bohac, MBA. SOS provides service in 12 states. Anthony Rintala, CEO of SSG noted "SOS is a natural fit to the SSG brands expanding our footprint in key states like Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, California, and Georgia".
Diane Powers, M.A. SLP-CCC President has an extensive background with over 25 years as a licensed SLP/CCC. With a successful career as a therapist, manager, and regional vice president in the health care field working for others, she became a founder and co-owner of a large mid-western therapy contract company serving medical facilities. She sold the company in order to lead the spin-off of SOS. Diane is a visionary leader with a solid ability to predict trends and craft successful strategies. Diane will retain her title as President. Through this partnership, SSG has over 50+ years of experience and employs over 800 educational professionals, becoming one of the largest special education solutions companies in the country.
Federal law requires school districts to follow the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act ("IDEA"), to provide specialized services to students who qualify. It is estimated that more than 6.8 million children now receive special services, such as speech and occupational therapy, through IDEA. Congress passed the first version of IDEA in 1975. The act was last reauthorized with amendments in 2004 and creates a national market for special education therapy services in U.S. public schools.
SSG assists school districts with increasingly complex and important special education needs that are mandated by federal law. There is a well-documented shortage of qualified school therapists and without year-round recruiting efforts; many schools have difficulty in recruiting therapists and coordinating the delivery of these specialized services. SSG works directly with the special education department of school districts to recruit therapists and help with the administration of services.
SOS received legal counsel from Williams Barrett & Wilkowski LLP and transaction advisory & accounting services from BKD, LLP.
